    Rebecca Delaney

    Rebecca Delaney Managing Director & Head of Children

    Rebecca is a Managing Director and leads the Family team. She is a member of the Children Panel and specialises in representing children.  She also has extensive experience in dealing with Divorce, Financial Remedy and Co-habitation disputes.

    Rebecca provides assistance to clients throughout Hertfordshire and because of her reputation, also represents clients further afield.  She regularly attends Court hearings in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and London.

    She is a member of Resolution and is committed to helping you reach a conclusion as swiftly, amicably and cost-effectively as possible. Rebecca adopts a pragmatic approach to resolution and predominantly assists clients to conclude matters by agreement, however she is an experienced litigator if Court proceedings are required.


    Sumaiya Smyth

    Sumaiya Smyth Managing Associate & Head of Inheritance

    Sumaiya joined Hepburn Delaney in May 2020 as a Managing Associate in our Wills, Trusts and Probate team.

    Sumaiya advises a variety of clients including high net worth individuals and business owners on all aspects of their estate planning.

    Sumaiya also sits on the Camelot advisory panel and regularly advises lottery winners in relation to their Wills and tax planning.

    She is an expert in the drafting of Wills, Trusts and Lasting Powers of Attorney and advises clients with assets abroad as well as in the UK.  She advises on detailed tax planning including the mitigation of inheritance tax and capital gains tax.

    She also has a wealth of experience in the administration of estates including complex high value estates with assets in other jurisdictions.  She advises personal representatives on all aspects of the administration including taxation.

    Sumaiya completed her undergraduate law degree, a masters degree in law, and her postgraduate diploma in law at the University of Hertfordshire and subsequently qualified as a solicitor in 2008.  Immediately prior to joining Hepburn Delaney Sumaiya headed up the Wealth Protection team for the Milton Keynes office of Shoosmiths for over three years.  Prior to joining Shoosmiths, she also worked at regional firm Pictons where she was a partner and head of the Wills, Trusts and Probate department.

    Sumaiya is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and Solicitors For The Elderly (SFE).


    Claire McParland

    Claire McParland Managing Associate & Head of Family

    I am dedicated to resolving matters as quickly and cost-effectively as possible. I can resolve cases amicably as well as robustly and will adapt my approach to suit you. I will support you to make the process as stress-free as possible. I often advise on high-value divorce cases, frequently with complex structures and an international element as well as more complex children’s cases.


    Claire’s experience includes divorce cases involving high value and complex structures, often with international assets and jurisdiction issues.

    She also often represents clients in complex children’s proceedings where there has been local authority involvement and also in applications to remove/contest removal of children from the jurisdiction.

    Training & employment experience

    She was educated at Hertfordshire law school. Claire was admitted as a solicitor in 2006 and has been specialising in family law ever since. Before joining Hepburn Delaney, Claire was heavily involved in developing, expanding and running the family law teams at three other firms.


    Claire is a member of Resolution, dedicated to resolving matters as amicably and cost-effectively as possible. Claire is approachable and gives very clear advice.

    Outside of work

    Claire enjoys spending time with friends and family, practising Pilates and running. So far, she has run the 5K and 10K Race for Life to help raise money for cancer research.

    Alison Rowley

    Alison Rowley Head of HR and Solicitor

    Alison works in the Wills, Trusts and Probate Team and she is a Member of the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners.

    Alison originally practised as a Commercial Property Solicitor in London for Linklaters and Price Waterhouse Coopers before transferring her specialism to Private Client. Alison’s commercial experience enhances the advice she is able to offer when dealing with estates.

    Alison is committed to providing clear and considerate advice to all her clients, whether in preparation of a simple Will or advising on complicated Trusts and Probate.


    Drenne Dunphy

    Drenne Dunphy Accredited Family Mediator and Solicitor

    Drenne has worked within the Family Law setting for over 30 years initially as a Solicitor and then training and qualifying as a Family Mediator, gaining accreditation through the Law Society and registration with the Family Mediation Council.  She has spent the last 27 years living and working in the Hemel Hempstead and Tring areas. Drenne now specialises solely in Mediation devoting her professional time to assisting separating couples resolve their issues in a safe, informed environment which allows them to take control over important decisions in moving forward with their lives.

    Julie Mackay Chartered Legal Executive

    Julie is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, specialising in representing parents in Children Law proceedings. She has worked in Family Law for 16 years. Her sensitive and practical approach to resolving matters relating to children makes her an asset to the Children Team.  She is an experienced and confident advocate, regularly attending the local courts to represent parents and family members.

    Matthew Delaney Director

    Matthew joined Hepburn Delaney in January 2018.

    Matthew comes to us with a background in corporate leadership, management and operations. These skills are invaluable to Hepburn Delaney’s continued progress in efficiency and excellence. He also chairs committees with the Chief Executive Dog.

    Lotus is a Legal Assistant in the matrimonial department.

    Lotus will complete the LPC and MSc in Law, Business and Management at the University of Law in June 2022.

    Previously, Lotus worked at a specialist family law firm in London and then joined Co-op Legal Services in March 2020 working in the family law department, before joining Hepburn Delaney in February 2022.

    She has experience across different areas of commercial law but decided family law was her preferred specialism. Whilst studying her undergraduate degree, she undertook a placement year where she worked at a law firm and volunteered at an Anti-human trafficking charity.

    When not working, you can find Lotus on a netball court, spending time with family and friends and going to her favourite coffee shops.

    Cassie joined Hepburn Delaney in June 2015 as a member of our security team.  Her enthusiasm in this role quickly led to promotion to Chief Executive Dog. Outside of work, Cassie enjoys long walks in the country, spa days and fine dining.

    Norma Delaney

    Norma Delaney Chief Operating Dog

    Norma joined Hepburn Delaney in May 2021.  Having completed her probation, she now runs the day to day operations of Hepburn Delaney supporting the Chief Executive Dog.

    Outside of work, Norma enjoys fetching balls, muddy walks, food of any type and annoying the Chief Executive Dog whenever possible.
